Canterbury Earthquake highlights the need for personal insurance cover

The true value of insurance can be seen in the light of the events in Christchurch in the last few weeks. We have experienced  millions of dollars of damage to homes and businesses and the majority of people have diligently made sure their covers are in place and up to date.
Most people see the value of insuring things and appear happy to do so but it is a fact of life that most people don’t adequately insure the most important thing - themselves.
Consider this. If a family member  gets cancer or has a heart attack how would you survive financially?Don’t forget you cannot claim ACC and you may have to live off your savings or re-mortgage your home to survive.
There are many ways to insure against this eventuality and each one needs expert advice as your situation may differ from a workmate or friend. Income Protection, Mortgage Protection, Key Person and Trauma are the main types of cover available.
A sobering statistic is that we have the highest rate of bowel cancer in the world. Thirty people a week die of bowel or colon cancer in New Zealand which is triple the road toll!
It’s about covering the worst case scenario at the cheapest price with the most appropriate product.
